[INT] 4minute's interview with STARNEWS

[11.04.14] 4minute's interview with STARNEWS

The 5-member girl group 4minute made an energetic first step for their second leap.

4minute - consisting of Kim Hyunah, Heo Gayoon, Jeon Jiyoon, Nam Jihyun and Kwon Sohyun - released their first full-length album earlier this month, with the dance songs 'Mirror, Mirror' and 'Heart to Heart' as its title tracks. It's their first album released after 2 years since their strong debut in June 2009 with 'Hot Issue'.

Even if, lately, in the Kpop scene, digital singles and mini albums are released more often, releasing a full-length album is still one of the biggest dreams to achieve for a singer. Because they can express their own music abilities and charms to their heart's content.

Because this first full-length album has also its importance to the already popular girl group 4minute, it is likely to mean another start.

"Because we dropped our first album, it feels great. I like the fact that we prepared enough content to hold our first solo concert in Korea. We've been accumulating songs. Haha" (Heo Gayoon)

"After our first album dropped, the feeling of responsibility was stronger. I came to think that we should work more and better our skills even more. Of course, I have no words to express my joy." (Jeon Jiyoon)

"This album is an album that many staffers made and are attached to. They tried various music genres and made them so they all could be title tracks. It is not because it's our album but, I have the confidence to say that it's an album smeared with the lively feel of spring. I think that we did work on this album and that all the members have upgraded their skills even more." (Kim Hyunah)

Actually, 4minute have worked on this album for about a year in a singular manner. They haven't released anything in Korea after the release of their mini album last May and its title track 'HUH': this is the reason why they can't help but be strongly attached to this album.

But clouds always follow the sunshine. They released their first full-length album and did things properly for their performances but they sparked a controversy by themselves. The part of their dance routine when they're kneeling earned the "spread legs dance" and a controversy aroused for its racy aspect. They eventually changed it.

The dance routine for which they sweated so much got them caught in a controversy, and it could have eventually hurt the 4minute members who are still young. Nonetheless, they were brave.

The youngest member Kwon Sohyun said "At first, when the 'spread legs dance' controversy sparked, we didn't even know there was a controversy surrounding us" and "Because while we have been practicing the dance routine for 'Mirror, Mirror' for a long time, we didn't think it could be suggestive, not even once". She added while smiling "It's a pity that a controversy aroused over a choreography that we have practiced for a long time. Please look forward to our new changed choreography"

Nam Jihyun revealed "I thought I should be thankful and consider the interest coming from this controversy, whatever it is" and "In the upcoming times, we'll work hard on our promotion activities with our modified dance routine."

Kim Hyunah said laughingly "Even though we're embarrassed, it was even more surprising that we earned such great interest for our dance routine" and "Even though many wanted us to changed the choreography and said it was disturbing, we will be able to try something new and I like it."

4minute's such confidence comes from their trust in one another. Now, they just have to look at one another's expression in the eyes to understand their feelings. Their tight teamwork results in a synergy effect on stage.

Jeon Jiyoon confidently stated "Our very own forte is a distinctive color" and "I think we can pull of the 'powerful' the best". She then added "One of our other strong points is our teamwork" and "I think that we will be able to last longer than Shinhwa."

Kim Hyunah said laughingly "Our teamwork is our greatest virtue" and "Now we can read each other's feelings, and it's thanks to this that we're improving a lot more".

As expected, Nam Jihyun said "4minute's looks are definitely not the best, but when it comes to our teamwork, our personality as a group, our performances and more, we think they're the best and we're striving to make it even truer". "We're not 1+1+1+1+1=5 but 100; it is because our teamwork is different" she concluded laughingly.

The 4minute girls who trust each other and also are considerate to one another, let's look forward to their second start.
